Vijay's 'Master' vs OTT platforms: Why Thalapathy's next is spiraled with rumors?

As the OTT platforms have become the new leg for the cinema industry to walk on and to take their movies directly to the hands of the audiences in the wake of the indefinite closures of the theaters and cinema halls owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions, there have been much speculations for the movies of the big stars on whether they would be coming to the home or the theaters, after the resumption. 

While some of the Tamil movies had already tested the standard of the leg through getting released on the OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and Disney Hotstar, the release of  Actor Vijay's next movie 'Master', has largely been expected by the fans of the thespian. The movie is waiting for the theatrical release for over five months, leaving the fans to brace up the delay in watching their favorite actor on big screens.

'Master' is one of the movies that has been wired with rumors and unconfirmed developments that would rise and subdue and there have been claims and hearsays from nowhere which would press that Master would be released on the OTT platforms. Such developments would emerge amid the production house denies that and reiterate that the movie would wait for theatrical release. 

According to the latest reports that surfaced on Saturday, Amazon Prime has been in talks with the Master team to acquire the movie and to release on its platform and if it succeeds the deal, it would be the major acquisition for the prime video in Kollywood. Some reports suggested that Amazon Prime is ready to offer Rs 100 crores for the digital rights of the film. 

The fame and following of Actor Vijay, much expectations of the story and from the crew, the new leg to walk on by skipping the theaters, timely but not outdated release, and the long wait of the fans have been the ingredients that cooked such rumors around the movie and it has caught with such rumors not for first but for many times during the lockdown. 

Reacting to the latest reports that 'Master' would be acquired by Amazon Prime, the production team, XB Film Creators, had denied such rumors and reiterated for yet another time that the movie would be released in the theaters after the resumption and pressed that the movie has no grounds of the OTT release. 

The makers said that 'Master' was made for a theatrical release and it will be out only in theaters in the middle of the celebrations of fans. There are no two ways about it, signaling that there is neither space for such rumors nor for the platforms'. Ever since the movie's first look was brewed, it has surfaced major expectations from the fans as the crew has been as strong as they are popular among the audiences. 

'Master' would have been released this summer if there were no such outbreaks and lockdowns. The makers said that the movie is ready for release and will hit the theaters after the resumption. 'Master' has been directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who attained fame through 'Maanagaram' and 'Kaithi'. Along with Thalapathy Vijay, Vijay Sethupathi, Malavika Mohanan, and Gouri Kishan had played in the lead roles. 

 

This would be the first time that Vijay is working with Lokesh Kanagaraj. Anirudh has composed music and the songs had received good reception among the fans and audiences. So far, Tamil movies like Ponmagal Vandhaal and Penguin had been released on Amazon while Suriya's next 'Soorarai Pottru' and Vijay Sethupathi's 'Ranasingam' have been confirmed to get released on Amazon Prime soon. LetsOTT Global, which brings updates and reviews from the OTT platforms, had taken to Twitter and said, "Once again the rumors, Once again the clarification. Master only in Theaters".
