The Madras High Court has on Tuesday - August 2 poured fresh trouble on Hemnath, the husband of deceased actress and VJ Chitra, that there was enough proof to charge him in the case. Earlier, he was awarded conditional bail but the court has turned down his request to quash the case against him.

In December 2020, Chitra, who was the household name in Tamil Nadu, committed suicide in a hotel room near Ponnamallee on the outskirts of Chennai. She was staying with her husband Hemnath at the time of the death and Chitra's father Kamaraj reported suspicion of her death. He had approached Nazarathpet police station and based on the complaint, Hemnath was arrested and sent to the Ponneri jail.

He was later released on conditional bail and he petitioned the Madras High Court to dismiss the case against him. On Tuesday, his petition came to the hearing and after the hearing, Justice Satish Kumar dismissed Hemnath's plea to quash the case. The court noted that there was enough evidence to prosecute him in the Chitra death case and that the charge sheet could be quashed.

He has been told to appear before the trial court for additional inquiry. Earlier, the Madras High Court stopped the police investigation and directed the police and Chitra's father to respond to the plea filed by Hemnath in the High Court seeking to dismiss the charge sheet against him. It is pertinent to note that Chitra got engaged to Hemanth in August 2020 and the couple had done registered marriage in October 2020, two months ahead of her death.
