The buzz around Kamal Haasan’s upcoming production ‘STR 48’ is getting louder by the day. The historical drama, which marks the second directorial debut of Desingh Periasamy, has already roped in Simbu to play the dual roles of hero and villain. But who will be the leading ladies of this magnum opus is what fans are wondering about.

According to some reports, Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone is in talks to star opposite Simbu in this epic saga. The actress, who has previously worked with Rajinikanth in ‘Kochadaiyaan', is said to be keen on exploring Tamil cinema again. If the deal is sealed, this will be Deepika’s second historical film after the Soundarya Rajinikanth's animation fantasy.

Sources say that Deepika, who charges a whopping remuneration more than Silambarasan’s salary, is keen to work with Kamal Haasan and Simbu in this film. If the deal is finalized, this will mark Deepika’s second Tamil film after Kochadaiiyaan, where she voiced for the animated character of Soundarya Rajinikanth. Deepika Padukone, who is currently busy with her Bollywood projects like , Fighter and The Intern, has not confirmed or denied the news yet.

However, some sources also claim that Deepika is not the only contender for the female lead. Two other popular actresses, Keerthy Suresh and Pooja Hegde, are also being considered for the role. Both of them have proved their mettle in the South Indian film industry and have a huge fan following. It remains to be seen who will finally bag the coveted role.

‘STR 48’ is expected to go on floors soon and will be shot in various locations across India. The film is being produced by Kamal Haasan under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. The music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

However, fans of both Simbu and Deepika are eagerly waiting for an official announcement from the makers of STR 48 soon. The film is also expected to have a cameo appearance by Kamal Haasan himself, which will be a treat for the audience.
