As of Friday, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,85,024 cases so far of which 52,759 are active, 2,27,575 have been recovered, and 4,690 had succumbed to the virus. 

With the current reporting of 984 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,07,109 cases so far of which 93,231 have been discharged and 2,272 had died of the viral infection. 

The actor has rented a chartered flight and airlifted the students from Moscow by lifting up the barriers as he had facilitated their safe arrival in Chennai. 

India, which is the worst-affected country by COVID-19 in Asia and third in the world after the United States and Brazil, has been witnessing peaking COVID-19 cases amid the steady rise in the recoveries.

With the current reporting of 1091 cases, Chennai has recorded 1,06,096 cases so far of which 92,128 have been discharged. 

Tamil Nadu had earlier witnessed such incidents of the undignified burials. Earlier, Chennai doctor Simon Hercules, who succumbed to the viral infection, had also faced such undignified burial.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and following the blaze, around 40 other COVID-19 patients, who were getting treated at the hospital, have been rescued and shifted to the city's civic hospital.

The development has come hours after reputed playback singer SP Balasubramanyam had tested positive for the viral infection.

On July 5, the state's death toll stood at 1,510 and in one month, the state has added 2,951 more deaths to its tally.
