As of Sunday, Tamil Nadu has reported 3,79,385 cases so far of which 53,541 are active, 3,19,327 have been recovered, and 6,517 had died due to the pandemic.
The development has come when India has crossed the tally of three million COVID-19 cases, third highest in the world after the United States and Brazil.
With the current reporting, Chennai has recorded 1,24,071 cases so far of which 1,08,545 have been discharged and 2,564 had died of the global pandemic.
Chennai Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Agarwal said, "10,000 police personnel have been deployed for smooth conduct of Vinayak Chaturthi in Chennai".
His letter said that any such restrictions imposed against the Center's guidelines would account for a violation of guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry during the phases of unlocking the lockdown.
