The latest schedule for the election of the president was unanimously approved at the virtual meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) that was held on Sunday.

By refusing to comment further on his new party, Azad said, "I have thought about this decision for long and there is no going back." 

The veteran leader has slammed Rahul Gandhi for his immaturity and for demolishing the consultative mechanism in the party.

As Rahul Gandhi is yet to be convinced to take up the baton again, all fingers are now pointing at Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is now the front runner for the party's president.

The Congress party has on Friday said that Sonia Gandhi was detected with a lower respiratory tract infection after being admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.

The fresh summon was issued after Sonia Gandhi has appealed for the reschedule of the enquiry she was infected by the Covid pandemic. 

Surjewala has asserted that though Sonia Gandhi had developed health complications, her schedule for appearing before the ED hasn't been changed.

The summon was issued to the Gandhis days after the ED had questioned senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal as part of the probe. 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote, "The news of the passing away of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Pandit Sukh Ram Ji is extremely sad."
