By ordering the premature release of all six convicts, the Supreme Court ruled, "The appellants are directed to be set at liberty if not required in any other matter."

Ramana is set to demit his office on August 26 and he will be succeeded by Justice Udhay Umesh Lalit as the next Chief Justice of India.

Notably, Lalit represented Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin encounter case when the current Union Home Minister was serving as the Home Minister of Gujarat.

As the senior-most judge after the incumbent would be replacing the latter, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit will probably become the next Chief Justice. 

During the hearing, the judges said, "When you file FIRs against others, they are immediately arrested but when it's against you, nobody has dared to touch you."
