The letter has immensely shocked India's judicial arena and the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has intervened in the matter.

Chandrachud will serve as the CJI for two years and he has scripted an iconic history as he is going to take on the role that was decorated by his father Y V Chandrachud decades ago. 

As per the custom, NV Ramana shared the bench with the incoming Chief Justice of India Udhay Umesh Lalit on his last working day.

Ramana is set to demit his office on August 26 and he will be succeeded by Justice Udhay Umesh Lalit as the next Chief Justice of India.

Notably, Lalit represented Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin encounter case when the current Union Home Minister was serving as the Home Minister of Gujarat.

As the senior-most judge after the incumbent would be replacing the latter, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit will probably become the next Chief Justice. 

The Chief Justice bench has awarded the Central government four weeks to table its responses on the petitions filed to challenge the constitutional validity of CAA.

On January 9th, the Apex court had dismissed to hear the petitions that sought the court to dictate the act as unconstitutional by citing that the country has been witnessing tough and difficult times.
